I woke up with a headache
Heard a commotion like falling dominos
Felt confused, One thing is for certain:
That little Irishman punched me in the nose
Now you can say it’s a lie

Last night I played rhythm guitar in the band of Van the man…
I looked around for some sympathy
all I got from the bassist and drummer
were shrugs
maybe he thought i was unprofessional
maybe he heard I was on drugs

I’ve always loved his music
don’t know why he would treat me this way
and I still love his music
and I’m hoping he’ll still call me to play
If it’s any consolation
He picked on the piano player too
Smacked the Steinway on his way to the microphone
shouted out “No sevenths!” as he
grabbed his saxophone
This is more like heavy metal than rhythm and blues
Broken strings and blood on my shoes
